Abstract

This study aims to investigate the ways teachers of MA Qurratul Uyun implementing snowball throwing in learning as well as their obstacles in implementing it. This research uses qualitative by using descriptive approach. The participants of this study are the teachers at MA Qurratul Uyun. The data are obtained through observation, interview, and documentation. The result shows that teachers give the students materials and make groups as well call one of the students in each group to give clarification about items. Each leader of group take one ball and text, then return to each group and explain the material which the teacher has explained to his or her friends. Each cluster takes a text in ball and make a question based on text, after that they throw to another groups. Then, the teachers give chances to the students to answer the question, and the last the teacher offer conclusion based on the student’s respond. The problem of the teachers is the students are getting lazy to read of the text. Therefore, it is important for the teachers to select appropriate text to increase their motivation in learning. This kind of model is an alternative solution to provide effective learning to the students.

Abstract

One of factors for student success in speaking ability is to use their listening ability, because Listening is play important in development process of speaking ability. therefore, this research aimed to finding out the correlation between students’ listening skill and speaking ability.This research applied a correlation study and used a quantitative design, the subject were 22 students of English Department second semester Madura University. There are two instruments to collect the data on this research. (1) essay test was used to get the data of their listening skill. (2) interview was used to get the data of their speaking ability.Person correlation product moment and SPSS version 26 program is used to analysis the data. Abstract

Pronunciation for students is one of the important parts in learning English. The students often find a problem with pronunciation when they speak, read, or listen in English word. They still have poor pronunciation. It can be seen in the daily teaching and learning process, especially in speaking class. It is difficult for the students to pronounce English words. The problem was most of the student’s pronunciation was likely to be influenced by their first language., in this case, madurase language. This research aims to investigates two problems which become the main discussion of this research. The first is to describe students difficulties in English pronunciation and to know the solution of students difficulties in English pronunciation. This research is qualitative research by using descriptive case study. The participant of this research are students in first grade of SMP Negeri 2 Kedungdung. the data were collected by using observation and some interview between the researcher and students, and also the researcher and the teacher. The result of this research showed that the word difficult to pronunciation by students is “wanted” and “remembers”. All of the students make mispronunciation in “wanted” and 16 students make mispronunciation in “remembers” word. The factors students difficult to pronounce English word is the different between lettering and pronouncing, English in not their mother tongue, and the students did not practice English in their daily activity. The possible solution from the researcher to resolve the students difficulties in English pronunciation: the teacher can give motivation to the students about English is interesting to study, the students can listening English music and practice it, and the teacher make strategies to teach English lessons that make students interesting to study.

Abstract

Language is used in daily of life for making interaction with another people in form of sound and symbol, in order that they can express their ideas, thought, feeling, opinion, and intention to other. There are two problem, first what kinds of errors faced by the students of SMAN 2 Sampang in using simple present tense in descriptive text? And the second what are the causes errors made by the students of SMAN 2 Sampang in using simple present tense in descriptive text?. First to describe the kinds of errors faced by the students of SMAN 2 Sampang in using simple present tense in descriptive text. to identify the causes of errors faced by the students of SMAN 2 Sampang in using simple present tense in descriptive text. this research the researcher was designed by using qualitative research method because the researcher only analyzed data collection without any statistic procedure. The data will be gathered from interview and document. the analyzing of the data conduct gather the information that the research obtains form various sources, observation, interview, document analysis. the result above, this study is suggested for the teacher should give more motivation and support to the students to learn English hardly, so the students can be interested and spirit in grammar genre. And for the students should give more attention to the teacher explanation, so they really understand what the teacher explanation.

Abstract

Dictation is one of techniques in learning foreign language. Understanding dictation is not always easy for students. An English lecturer should choose suitable techniques to teach them in order not to make students bored because she is one of the factors that determines whether the teaching learning process will be successful or not. The lecturer has to be able to apply various techniques in teaching English because the students prefer listening and writing an easy text. So, the lecturer can use correction techniques like shadow dictation and passing the buck.
